The fifth (and second last) transnational meeting of the project will take place on December 15th in the IDIBELL facilities in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, next to Barcelona city. The four partners will put ideas in common in order to face the last year of the project. Also, feedback from the multiplier events will be shared.

100 teachers will be involved in a one-day training session at Opificio Golinelli in Bologna, where they will discover and experience first-hand the escape rooms of the STARS GAME project, learn more about the Inquiry-based and Game-based learning methodologies applied and the digital tools used, and discuss together with science communicators the implementation of the project with the students.

During this week, IDIBELL will visit four high schools of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat in order to conduct the second round of workshops with students. The first visit will be on Monday 21st November to Institut Bellvitge, where IDIBELL will explain the STARS Game project to three groups of secondary students.

As a multiplier event of the project, IDIBELL will present the STARS Game project at Gutenberg Campus, in CosmoCaixa (Barcelona), that will take place on 19th September 2022. The attendees will learn about the co-creation of the escape room, ask their questions to science communicators and afterwards will be able to experience the escape room in first person.

Helmholtz launches the second workshop with teachers of integrated sciences at the European School Munich.

Helmholtz Munich will start the second round of Design Thinking Workshops for researchers. The goal is to jointly develop game clues for the Escape Room and to put oneself in the students’ perspective as much as possible.

The fourth transnational meeting of the project will have place on June 30th and July 1st in Ljubljana, Slovenia, hosted by Eda 6 d.o.o. The partners will put each other up to date and will work on the planning for the second half of the project, which will last until September 2023.

Helmholtz will present the Escape Room to 50 teachers at the science fair “FORSCHA – Münchner Wissenschaftstage“. The STARS GAME project and its research- and game-based approach will be presented. Afterwards, the teachers can get active themselves, test the Escape Room and discuss the links to their own teaching. In October, the second part of the multiplier event will take place.

The last implementation session of the second year of the project will take place in the local institute INS Bisbe Berenguer, where IDIBELL science communicators will bring the digital escape room into the classroom.

From 23rd to 27th May, AIRC scientific communicators will conduct the last activities at Matteotti-Pellico Institute: students, divided into teams of researchers, will present their scientific posters, prepared with the information collected from the escape rooms, and they’ll discuss the results of their researches.

From 2nd to 6th May, the students of 9 classes of the Matteotti-Pellico Institute of Turin will play the STARS GAME escape rooms: they will be divided into four teams of researchers – microbiologists, immunologists, molecular biologists and anatomopathologists – and they will investigate on an unknown disease.

On 20th January 2022, IDIBELL will host the third transnational event of the STARS Game project. The four partners will share their respective experiences with the implementation of the scientific escape room in the high schools.

On Thursday 30th December, Helmholtz Munich will implement the Digital Escape Room digitally with two main groups of the Realschule Landshut: one with 29 and another one with 22 students. The students will have two weeks’ time after having played with the Escape Room to prepare a poster that will be presented on January 14th in front of the class.

This Monday, the first round of implementation sessions will finish with the visit to INS Mercè Rodoreda, where IDIBELL will present the escape room to a group of secondary school students who will play the game. With the feedback received from all these sessions, the partners will work on improving the escape room.

This week, the first round of implementation will take place. IDIBELL members will visit the four participating high schools, where the same students that attended the workshops will play the scientific escape room. The organizing partner will collect feedback from students and teachers in order to evaluate the project.

The first implementation session will be in INS Bisbe Berenguer on Tuesday, 14th December.

On this Friday, the second workshop addressed to science teachers of the four participating high schools of L’Hospitalet will be held by IDIBELL. The organization members will show the escape room to teachers so that they can introduce the activity to students before the implementation sessions.

STARS GAME digital escape room arrives at school: the classes of the Malalbergo Institute involved in the project, guided by AIRC scientific communicators, were divided into teams of researchers of different disciplines (Microbiologists, Anatomopathologists, Molecular Biologists and Immunologists) and experienced the digital game-based activity.

The second transnational meeting will be hosted by HMGU. From 22th to 24th September, the four partners will meet in Münich in order to put together the collected information from the past workshops, and coordinate the implementation of the escape room.

Today, IDIBELL will host an online workshop for teachers with the aim of explaining the STARS Game project. The attendees are science teachers from the high schools of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat that will participate in the project. They will help introduce the virtual escape room to their students.

Helmholtz Munich science communicators will conduct 5 Design Thinking online-sessions with scientists to come up with scientific clues for the Digital Escape Room. Due to Covid restrictions, all the 5 sessions at Helmholtz Munich will take place online and will see the attendance of 7 young scientists (4 PhD students, 1 Post-Doc and 2 Principal Investigators). The 7 scientists are from 6 different nationalities: Italian, Greek, German, American, Indian, and Chinese. The main digital tool used to carry out the workshops will be Miro Board, a digital interactive whiteboard enabling visual collaboration for teams, that will facilitate the interaction between the participants and keep a good concentration.

At the end of the sessions the scientists will learn how to communicate their science using empathy and considering the target audience’s point of view and will come up with two scientific clues for the Digital Escape room, tailored to 10-12 years old kids.

On this week, the kick-off event of the STARS GAME project will take place. All four partners: AIRC, HMGU, EDA 6 and IDIBELL will meet online in order to share and plan all details such as the communication strategy, the finance management, the project activities, the quality coordination and the partner’s roles, among other things. This will represent the start of the project, which will last for three years from now.
